My tax refund was reduced 7k & I had no idea why. Today I found out its from CHILD SUPPORT. I’ve had my son since the day he was born. The dad filed something to get benefits for himself & it backfired on me. What can I do?? Can I fix this??

As a previous child support worker, I agree with this. Somethings off here. If there was an order entered against you there would have been NUMEROUS attempts to contact you and truly, in the county where I worked, a order couldn’t even be put in place unless the other party was personally served. I’d imagine this is a federal statue. In addition, weekly phone calls would be made to your employer and you personally if you weren’t paying on a case, as well as constant letters.

I do know of one case where there was fraud, but it was caught immediately when the custodial parent was served. I would suggest calling the prosecuting attorney for child support for your county.

Also if a custodial parent applies for TANF, they can intercept taxes to recoup that money from the non-custodial parent, but he would have had to claimed he had the child and opened a case against you.
