I am at a loss for words

I dont doubt at all women face more sexual assault than men, but there’s a lot more to it than “men don’t want to open up” stereotype. Male sexual assault is inherently seen as different— I say this as an AFAB who’s been sexually assaulted and had difficult times actually admitting to myself it was SA, let alone other people.

And I don’t want to discredit your experiences, especially as a male SA victim, but the amount of men I’ve encountered who will casually drop stories of abuse and not even think of it as being abuse is genuinely heartbreaking.

I think media (tv shows, movies, books, etc) is a good example of societal opinions on topics, and there’s one that really sticks out to me on this. There’s a pretty prolific male comic book hero who was without a doubt raped (at least twice, but one is more cut and dry than the other). It was never actually handled as SA in the comics, never addressed, and it wasn’t really criticized as not just being hot rooftop sex until a lot of female voices spoke up and pointed out that it was 100% SA. This happened in a comic issue over 10 years old, and to this day the creators refuse to say anything about it— even going as far as to demand recently cut dialogue in a show that would directly reference this.
