MyTEAM Advice Thread - November 06, 2018

With the exception of the MVP squad and Finals MVP squad, I beat every Fantasy Domination team on my first chance (which amazes me how I could beat the last time, which should be the best team, on my first try but not these other teams lol). At the time, my lineup looked a lot like yours and I only had rubies so here was my strategy:

• First with lineup changes, you have to understand that the CPU has insane defense, as I’m sure you’re already aware. Especially when you play that all-Galaxy Opal squad, they will shut you down and constantly strip the ball from you. Because of this, you shouldn’t even bother trying to drive inside. Instead, you want to burn them with your outside shooting. I don’t know how much MT you have or if you’re willing to spend any, but I want to make it clear that as impossible as it may seem, all of these squads can be beat with an all-ruby team. You may want to upgrade your coach, again I don’t know how much MT you have or if you’re willing to spend any, but I did this with emerald Mike Malone, who boosted three point shooting by +2. If you have the MT, invest in Diamond Kerr or Amethyst Casey.

  • First of all, I’d recommend taking Eaton out of your lineup completely. What I did was play KAT at Center and you can literally grab a DeMarcus Cousins right now for about 1300 MT and play him as your PF. What this will do for you is allow you to stretch the floor and get more spacing for outside shots. I know KAT lacks defense in real life but this is 2K we’re talking about here, where defense is broken, and since KAT is 7’0”, he got a lot of blocks for me.

  • As someone else commented, give Daniel Gibson more playing time. Trust me when I say for most of us, including myself, he will play better offensively than Lillard or Young. You can either have Jones or Gibson as your starting PG, but make the other your backup point guard instead of further down in the rotation. Personally, I would also give Pippen the starting spot over Butler because Pippen was my starting SF, unless of course Butler is working well for you then stick with that.

•Now on to the gameplay:

  • Try off-balling with your C or PF at first and see if you notice that you’re shutting down the CPU more consistently than with user-controlled defense. I remember that there were some games where off-balling would lead to my teammates getting steals I wouldn’t have been able to get on my own, which led to easy fast break buckets. However, there were some games where off-balling wasn’t working for me especially when my teammates would be called for reach-in fouls in late game situations and I’d have to resort to playing defense myself. Just give it a try and if it’s helping, stick with it. But if it’s not, play defense yourself.

  • If you’re getting burned by the opposing team’s big point guard (Magic comes to mind), press L1 on PS4 while on defense and press square to select your SG and then press X to switch your SG to guard the opposing point guard. Trust me, that makes a big difference and Klay/Butler, but especially Pippen or PG13 would be much better off guarding Magic. Obviously you can do this with any other matchup you’re having trouble with. You may be thinking, “Wait but now that means little Daniel Gibson is gonna have to guard MJ.” But you should be fine lol, in my experience Magic would ball-hog and go to the post all the time so I didn’t have to worry about my PG being burned by their SG. If their SG does get the ball though, then try your best sticking with them on the perimeter and switch to your big man if they’re attacking on the drive to provide help defense.

  • Finally the biggest tip, be trigger happy lol. Abuse the inbound three-point cheese with your PG. Try to take as many threes as possible but never force them. Keep passing the ball around and if you don’t see any scoring opportunities, create them by attacking the basket, then kicking it out to open teammate for three. Gibson, Jones, KAT, Cousins, even Pippen - all of these players should make outside shooting very easy. Use it to your advantage. Having 5 players on the floor who can all shoot a three will make this so much easier.

That’s what I did and I was able to fairly easily breeze through Fantasy Dom. Don’t expect to beat that all-99 team in one try though. Just keep practicing and learn to use your players to their strengths. Best of luck!
