I went to UCSB for two years and then transferred to Berkeley. If I could do it over again, I definitely would have gone to a CC then transferred to Berkeley! This path would have saved a LOT of money.

If you go to a local CC, you'll not only get to live at home but you'll also have 2 years to figure out what you want to major in and do career wise. On the other hand, transferring to Berkeley is not a guarantee.

If I was in your position, I'd head to a CC (if you are absolutely sure that Berkeley is your dream school) or I'd go straight to UCSD or UCSB. Both schools are amazing. I've spent a summer at UCSD/San Diego and the vibe there is more chill compared to Berkeley.

Two years will fly by I promise. Initially it will be difficult because all of your friends are leaving for college, but eventually the FOMO goes away.
