Need Comprehensive C++ Practice

Not OP but I do work with someone who has a game dev degree. He seems to regret getting it and now goes on rants about how degrees are worthless whenever someone mentions them. We have someone working with us who is about to go into the final year of uni and so is cutting their working days down, he constantly tries to convince the student to give up his degree. However, this guy works in Software Development and not specifically in Game Development.

He said he learnt some programming but the course was restricted to working inside pre-built engines, so his programming experience was fairly limited. The rest was seemingly theory about how to design games, the emphasis seemed to be on the game design theory rather than the programming and development aspect. His course seemed poorly thought out and more like a lazy cash grab on the rising popularity of indie games at the time. His complaint tends to be that his degree didn't prepare him for real world software development, and never got him a job (I am unsure of how he got the job he has now). No degree will truly prepare you for real world software development, most employers and even some students know that. However, his course seems to have covered very little that was actually relevant to the field of software dev overall or even specifically game development. He had a really hard time when he first started the job, harder than most it would seem. He's not a bad programmer though, he is now one of the best we have. He just had a rough start and blames that on degrees.

OP if you are reading this, don't worry. He did his degree when these courses first started getting popular, they have likely improved quite a bit by now. Also not all degrees are equal to begin with and he didn't got to a school specifically set up for the field.
