New Tomb Raider movie reboot to be inspired by the 2013 video game

I'm not saying they have to share the same opinions as myself. Though in retrospect saying it takes itself too seriously isn't exactly a fair criticism.

I just really don't think the stories were well written. I'll avoid spoilers, but Rise of the Tomb Raider was very run of the mill and cliche, and I don't recall the 2013 game being much better either.

The new Lara is supposed to be weaker than what she was in the old games, which I don't have a problem with itself, I love the new Lara in terms of design and character, she's not a badass in the same sense as the Lara in the old games, she's a survivor, getting herself in over he head but pulling through, where as old Lara kinda goes in guns blazing, wanting to get her whatever her goal is and not letting anybody get in her way... But theres this weird dissonance between the story and gameplay of the reboot games.

Early into the 2013 game Lara freaks out about having to kill a person, but then suddenly takes no issue with mowing down plenty more after that, even yelling "I'll kill you all!" or something to that effect later in the game, and then early on in Rise she mentions how she wishes she was never taught how to shoot because of what she's done with that knowledge. But then you get into the gameplay, and a lot of it is spent killing people, often quite violently, sticking ice picks in peoples heads, breaking their necks with your bow, all the while Lara totes the aforementioned bow, plus a handgun, rifle, and shotgun, all of which you can unlock execution moves for where Lara will place the barrels of her shotgun under a persons chin and pull the trigger. Carrying around 4 different weapons and having weapon upgrades and all that doesn't seem fitting at all for the type of character Lara is supposed to be, where as Nathan Drake carries two guns, the second being off the bodies of bad guys, he's an explorer, he's not going to lug around a smorgasbord of guns for the whole game. The puzzles in the reboot games are largely meaningless and are mostly just used for Lara to progress, usually to bypass an obstacle, and often involve her destroying ancient relics of lost civilizations in the process, where as puzzles in Uncharted, or previous Tomb Raider games will have relevance, showing the characters where they have to go next, or giving them some kind of clue, any real or interesting puzzles are often reserved for the "Optional Side Tombs" (which are what they're actually called in-game), which get you character upgrades.

I have a few other issues with the reboot games, but my biggest gripes come from the lack of harmony between the gameplay and the story/character. I don't think they're the worst games every made, like I said, I like the new Lara as a character, and her design, the games are stupid pretty looking, I like the exploration aspects, but as it is, I think Uncharted is doing a better job of being Tomb Raider than Tomb Raider actually is.
