So your reasoning is that even though Disney paid $4 billion for ownership of Marvel Studios, created a television division in order to support the expansion of the IP, replaced Marvel's entire marketing division with Disney people, went around buying up Marvel distribution rights, has since made a deal with Sony for Marvel to be able to use Spider-Man, and has now invested buckets of money to get access to the talent and intellectual property Marvel needs to make their movies, Marvel is not attached to the Disney brand. Like, at all. That's what you're saying? That Marvel is no way a reflection of Disney, and that Disney's influence in no way changes Marvel's production?

Because that seems really funny that you would think that a company that owns a film production studio, and owns the character and distribution rights, does not have any input, or impact, on the films they create. It kind of looks like Disney has gone out of their way to impact that company, and make sure that they are creating movies they want to distribute.

But, ok, you know what? I will concede. Marvel is totally its own thing that has no input from Disney on how to create, produce or market their films. You are totally right.

...and yet their name is still on it, and that had an impact on my expectations of the film. Disney's name is attached to it. The trailer had a talking raccoon, and a bunch of stereotypical hero types in space. It looked like a Disney movie. Lack of a Disney logo (/sigh, yes I went and checked GotG. You are right, no Disney Castle) did not change the fact that I knew they had invested a lot of time, money and energy in the company, and what would be on the screen would be fruit from that relationship.

And, to me, it always will. I know people who work for Disney, and believe me, they know they own Marvel. They take pride in saying that they helped make that happen. They tell their children about it. So you can argue that Disney doesn't "really" make Marvel movies, but Marvel wouldn't be making what they're making, and wouldn't be doing as well at it as they are, without Disney. The plans they have for Phase 3, the tie-ins they have with the television division, and how they develop those characters in future films are affected by the relationship with Disney.

I knew that going into Guardians, and until I saw what Marvel did with the characters, I had my concerns. It turned out, it was great. Disney let them do their thing, and didn't turn Rocket into Olaf. It wasn't a pandering pile of crap - but it could have been, and that was the original point of this argument. Not who owns what, but what my perception and expectations were based on the trailer.
