I was driving around the city, late at night, with a friend checking out Christmas lights in some uptown neighborhood, when I realize the same car had been behind us for a few minutes.

"No need to panic," I thought, "we'll just take three left turns and they'll be gone. It's all in my head."

One turn, two turns, still behind us. As we're about to take the third turn, some neighborhood patrol/security car blocks the turn and flashes that bright upper row of lights at us. But there were no sirens; no red, blue, or even yellow or green lights. Just those blinding white overhead lights. So we didn't stop, went down another block and took the left turn there. Now we've got this strange car and a patrol car closely following us.

Without a GPS or any real familiarity with this neighborhood, I just kept going until I saw a road I was pretty sure would get us closer to the interstate. Sure enough, within a few minutes there's plenty of bright lights around, lots of cars. I move straight for the interstate, and as we get close to it, the strange car behind us cuts the wheel and makes a hard U-turn. The patrol car disappeared entirely before I could see where it went.

Was it kidnappers, was it stalkers, was it sketchy ass cops, was it some uppity snob from the neighborhood who didn't want people perusing around? No fucking clue.
