NYT Op-Ed on the ASWB Exams (written by a Linguist, not a Social Worker)

I wish people could see that the point McWhorter makes is that nothing will be solved by removing the test because the problems that cause racially disparate pass rates (systemic inequality and racism) exist upstream from the test. It’s like throwing away a pregnancy test when you don’t like the results - it doesn’t make the baby disappear.

His point is that we should be curious about what the pass rates are saying about upstream inequalities rather than removing the test all together. And social work is very committed to investigating and addressing upstream inequalities so I’m not sure why this nuance is verboten.

(I know no one but @mywallsbetsacct will see this as I’m a late comment but have had few folks to talk about this with!)
