What's the logical move here (college)

Congratulations in getting into ¾ schools! I don’t know what you should pick. But I can ask you some questions.

It sounds like you know that engineering school would provide more financial stability, which you highly value. There must be something else keeping the liberal arts school in the running. Do you think it could be because you’re happier learning about liberal arts than engineering?

That’s not to say happiness should be the only consideration when looking for a job. Sometimes a career with more financial stability lets you take more time off or invest in your hobbies, which can be more rewarding for some people.

What may be holding you back from lib arts? Job prospects? Think about what you may want to major in, then look up careers you would enjoy that use this major. What salary could you expect?

What may be holding you back from engineering? That you like but don’t love it? Look up engineering fields- there are way more than the number you can major in. Do any of them get you really excited?

You say you want to go to grad school. Why? Is it something your parents want? Something you always assumed you’d do? You need to be very dedicated to a very specific area. This is not about financial stability anymore- more school will cost more money and academics get paid less than businesspeople. (Would your parents cover grad school?) Do you have that kind of drive for arts? Engineering? Can you picture yourself finding a field in either of those areas that will create that kind of drive? Finally, if you got a PhD, which one’s job prospects would you prefer? Masters? Undergrad?

If you changed your mind would it be easier/ would you be more comfortable switching from lib arts to engineering or vice versa?

A couple of other ways to break a tie: College’s reputation (academic & also your general sense of how you would fit in), proximity to family, do you want to go to a school where more/less friends are going, climate Flip a coin. If the outcome disappoints you, go with the other one.

For what it’s worth, I’m studying science right now because it’s kind of middle of the road. I still have no idea what kind of career I want and I doubt my decisions every single day.
