I think it is clear by now that the First Order is symbolic of the Right-wing. They are racist, hold a great deal of importance in intimidation and militaristic might, and are fighting a violent war to bring oppression and white supremacy to the galaxy. However, despite their strength, they are bumbling, stupid, incompetent and often silly, much like the current Right-wing. A great example of this is General Hux, a character who resembles and acts like the vast majority of Republicans.

The rebels on the other hand represent the resistance against Trump and progressivism as a whole. They are diverse, open minded, brave, and accepting.

Also, like in real life, we all know who will win in the end.
