Exactly. My kids each get $5 a week which I may scale at my discretion based on how their overall household contribution played out over the week. So it’s chores, sure, but it’s also their attitude and their approach to their chores, and their homework, and all the things that come with being a productive family member. Maybe my daughter did all of her chores this week but she was needlessly cruel to her brother, so we will have a conversation about why she’s only getting $4 for her allowance this week even though she did the dishes and folded her laundry. It’s all about learning responsibility and accountability, not just checking a box on a to-do list.
