I would rank this film amongst my top 10 of 2016. I believe Mark Wahlberg's fictional character was written to help progress the events, but at the same time his character didn't take credibility away from the individuals involved. There were however a couple scenes that didn't seem necessary for him to be in, for example the Red Sox game when Ortiz was about to take the field. The acting is terrific from all the supporting roles and the suspense will have you on the edge of your seat. The film does a superb job paying tribute to the victims, first responders, and law enforcement involved especially before the end credits. The film also managed to not shine a negative light on the Muslim demographic residing in the US, the focus is towards accurately portraying the events that occurred. I understand some people find it distasteful to create a movie over an act of terrorism especially when it took place almost four years ago. This film does its best to stay historically accurate but also to respectfully honor those who lost their lives. I recommend Patriots Day to anyone who approves of its release.
