PC Gamer Beta Giveaway Discussion Thread

Honestly, it sounds like a lot of hard work but i believe handpicking people is a much better way of doing things. Maybe get a few guys doing it so it doesn't take so long, but i have my reasons for this.

Pros:

  • You get to pick the people that you believe are most deserving. People who will contribute to the beta test and give the feedback that is really needed. Long-time KF players, bug reporters, all the people the beta really NEEDS to have in it.

  • Bots don't steal all the keys, duplicate emails can't steal keys (I.P changes via apps and stuff could bypass your giveaway, big problem).

Cons:

  • Slower. But with enough people relaxing and just reading through comments, deciding who is most deserving it probably won't take too long.

  • Whining. Lots of it. People who don't get keys will pull the 'why don't you love me, i'm mature i swear' act. People who do get keys will be grateful and if you picked right will give the feedback this test needs.

The giveaway system you did was frankly.. not too great, i don't mean to criticize so harshly but you had 143,000 people enter the giveaway, most likely half of those were duplicates or some form of bot. People who really truly just don't deserve another key. A lot of (i'm gonna be blunt) dumbasses who literally posted in the comments section 'PLZ GIMME KEY PLSS'. These keys could have gone towards individuals who will have recorded gameplay, sent in feedback, reported bugs etc. Professional players who have been fans for years could have got the keys and really contributed to the teams of newer players and helped out with their knowledge. Now we've likely just got a lot of kids running around screaming 'YES I GOT KEY' and acting like idiots just because 'hey free key'.

My comment may seem a little harsh, maybe a little one-sided, but i truly believe handpicking is a much better system, and i hope i've made at least a few points as to how and why.
