why do people look for sporty cars?

There is really nothing to explain to you if you don't already understand.

Your question in itself isn't confusing, but your whole summarization of why you're confused sent me into a spiral of confusion and anger.

I don't own a sports car, but I want one. When im able to, I will buy one. Hence the large market.

Different manufacturers have different aesthetics, brand appeal/history, or overall goal/theme to contribute to the market.

Within any one brand, a series of cars provides the consumer with different functions. Dont need to elaborate there.

There are female car enthusiasts. Women/wives make the final decision? No, assuming youre talking of an average hetero couple dynamic , they provide logical advice. No honey, spend the 55k on renovating the house mot a car that you'll drop more money into.( straight average guy here, just pointing that out as its kinda indicative od your close minded ness and why youre asking such a pointless question anyway)

The function of a sports car is to feel fast, perform better than an average commuting car, and inspire confidence in your driving. They dont have to be loud and brash, but it's fun when they are. They make you feel like youre a part od the road, surfing a wave, rather than just getting from point a to b.

In a sports car, you don't need a destination to go to to have a reason to drive it.

And the biggest appeal, or at least to hot rodders that modify their car, its an art and a personal statement. Instead of buying an ikea piece of furniture, they'll make a solid oak piece. You build that thing, put your own time and effort into it. It reflects your personality and what you want out of your car.
