Please stop calling everything you disagree with liberal without further explanation.

I see this in every left-wing movement. We've become infected with the ideology of "purity," the ideology that there are "pure" and "unpure" individuals, and that by reciting incantations of various sorts, we can purge ourselves of our uncleanliness and achieve a higher, personal, ideal.

I see this in religion, in political movements, within minority groups... it seems we have rejected the specific words of the oppressors, but not their emotional patterns. We still engage in those emotional patterns, in those processes of viewing the world, even though we cling to new words and new dictionaries from which to draw our language and discourse.

"For the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house. They may allow us to temporarily beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change." -Audre Lorde

Stereotyping, dividing people into "pure/unpure" categories, vilification of differing ideologies - those are the master's tools. Rejecting these emotional patterns we cling to, and embracing a kind of personal change towards a more nurturing and less hostile society is what I believe the true revolution will be.

"Indoctrination" is not merely the teaching of contradictory facts. Indoctrination is the teaching of contradictory thinking and feeling. Once you limit the intellectual and emotional possibilities of an individual, you have already won, no matter if they call themselves a "left winger" or a "right winger" - and even those terms in themselves are a symptom of restricted thinking.

Would you respectfully disagree with a Neo-Nazi rather than tell them they deserve to die? Would you hold back from disparaging the identities of a Tumblr otherkin despite not understanding their point of view? If not, there's not much hope for a true socialist movement. So long as we use the master's tools, we will never achieve change.
