Portland NAACP president asks protesters to think about their own families: "Stop. You’re putting yourself in danger, and you’re putting homeowners and families in danger, and you’re frightening children.”

How many countries in the Arab Spring have had their protests result in a civil war in which the authoritarian right is taking over, or just a straight clampdown of an authoritarian leader, and how many became decentralized revolutionary utopias?

Many people in the world need a sense of stability, of clear cut law and order. Not every working class citizen wants to spend their time in pointless political charades. If you refuse to engage with that, to engage in concepts of actual power and to try to direct that power for good, the bad people and the demagogues and the corporate elite will take that power. And they are, and they will keep doing so. You may like the idea of radically restructuring, but do you like it more than having your goals met? Because most average people will not ever want to operate in some Derridian political committee, and you’re refusing to meet people where they are at and instead demand they jump through hoops to even be considered.
