Put together the barebones of my first aquarium this afternoon. Water’s clearing up fast and plants are on the way. Hit me with your advice! What mistakes am I going to make?

Go to the dollar store - they have so, so many $1.25 buckets, trays and bins.

I find myself needing random small buckets quite often for things like plants, quarantine, letting new water rest, places to stick wet tools/decorations. A smaller 3 gal bucket is what I use more frequently for water changes anyways, and it’s much more easy to wield.

All my new cheap buckets/bins a lifesaver - I used to stick everything in a $5 5 gallon bucket. No more!

disclaimer that we should all probably reduce our mindless consumption of plastic so my general advice would be to first think of what you can reuse in your house! Sterilite bins/covers, etc
