Putting the Tight Pants in TPT

JW's are used to hearing bonkers/offensive shit from the platform on a regular basis. To fight the cognitive dissonance they tell themselves that said shit is purely attributable to the "imperfect man" giving the talk, and by no means represents the wisdom/love/understanding of the governing body. To hear a governing body member shoot his mouth off in the same way was a thunderclap for me, as I'm sure it was for MANY others.

When I attended the local broadcast of the 2014 Branch visit I was still mentally in, but had been unable to attend meetings or go out in field service for many months, due to extreme financial difficulties. I had skipped college and spent my entire 20's as a regular pioneer and MS in small congregations where I had an elder-level workload. Now in my 30's I am forced to work two full-time jobs to cover basic living expenses. So for me, TPT's closing remarks were a huge moment in my awakening:

TPT reads Ezekial 33:8,9, and then makes this application: "If you're really not actively sharing in the warning work, when God looks at your hands, could well be seeing blood. So if he see's blood on our hands, we're going with the ones we were supposed to warn. It's that serious, not a light matter! And sometimes folks talk about, this relative that relative, and you know they're baptized, but they've been going through a hard time, they're not preaching, and we like the inactive, we're goin try to help em, but you know they talk about Jehovah like, like he's gonna understand all this, and I'm like, what Jehovah are they talkin about? I don't know him. He's not in here. That's your idea! This is serious business - it's life and death whether we share in the warning work."

Hearing a governing body member say that Jehovah was going to kill me because I wasn't going out in field service, no matter what the reason, was a major FUUUUCK YOU moment, probably the biggest in my awakening.
