Why was it tone deaf for Kathy to say she felt like an outsider sometimes? I thought that was the answer Garcelle was looking for, because Garcelle was using the Socratic method. "Have you ever felt like _____? Imagine that feeling, all the time." She needs her audience to say yes to the first part, so that she can get to the second part -- which is the moment when the understanding actually happens.

To me, Garcelle was not trying to grandstand or preach to the choir (which is how a lot of folks here interpreted it, I think). To me, Garcelle was trying to do something much harder and much more ambitious, which is try to connect with these dingbats and get them to think about things a little differently.

And I think the only reason she was doing that on camera on this popular TV show is that Garcelle was trying to connect with some members of the audience and get them to think about racial issues a little differently.

I had thought that was very effective communication, that really had the potential to change minds. She was not preaching to the choir (which is what this sub seems to DEMAND). She was trying to change hearts and minds...
