What’s the difference between a Housewife having a bad season, and knowing when to exit?

Tbh I don’t think there’s a difference. I think the audience’s hunches are generally correct. A lot of people were over Dorinda after season 11, just for her to be even worse season 12, and then even worse on UGT. Same with Nene. By season 7 several of us were over her, and every time they reintroduced her she never redeemed herself, only made it worse. Seems like the same thing with Rinna for years, and it’s been happening with Robyn for a while too.

Bravo and housewives should never be afraid of firing/pausing. They always say “you die the hero or live long enough to see yourself as a villain.” I think Holla Heather, Alex McCord, Tinsley Mortimer, and Jill Zarin are perfect examples of this. So many people look back on them fondly because with only 3-4 seasons, they didn’t give us enough time to hate them. Whereas someone as formerly beloved as Nene is now one of the most widely hated housewives, and she wouldn’t be had she quite while she was ahead around season 6

There’s always a chance to bring someone back, like Bethenny and Sheree. More pauses and demotions need to go out. Inauthenticity and contrived storylines need to be punished. It’s the only way to get these shows back on track
