Reddit CEO eliminates salary negotiations for new employees

Men negotiate harder than women do and sometimes women get penalized when they do negotiate.

WHAT?!

I go car shopping with my stepmother because she can negotiate the hell out of the salesperson. She gives me tips and advice on negotiating at work. She gets what she wants because she's confident and works at it. I'm a guy and I'm horrible at negotiating. Like, I've never asked for a raise my entire career. I have never, ever seen someone's gender play a role in their ability to negotiate. Perhaps I have a narrow or different world view than others -- but I have never considered gender as a factor when it comes to negotiating. (In other ways, sure, there are problems -- but I wouldn't say that's the case for negotiating a salary.)

I think this comment is totally unfair and out of touch to generalize women like this and say they're not capable of negotiating in the same hardness (how do you measure that?) as men. I work with lots of incredible, intelligent talented women who will negotiate as hard as anybody, whether it's for themselves or as their job (selling).

I'm totally blown away by this statement, to the point where I feel like I'm missing something or it's taken totally out of context. If she's a champion for the rights of women, I don't think it makes sense to say they're less apt to negotiate. I'm really baffled by that statement.

Anyway, good luck, Reddit, attracting talent when you aren't going to negotiate their worth, or apparently helping women become better negotiators since in your out-of-touch world they don't know how to negotiate. I'm floored. Maybe I'm missing something or I'm out of touch myself, but this doesn't make sense to me.
