The Rose and the Lion

Leopold turned his head ever so slightly, and his jaw clenched. Leopold didn't dislike uninvited guests, he didn't even dislike being questioned by a woman. What he despised was a girl who refused to acknowledge her place when her father had clearly ignored her.

"Lady Lannister, referring to a guests' cousin as a dock wenche is considered poor taste. A lesser lord would take offence at your words however I understand that children often speak out of turn. You speak of notions though that all noble women are expected to abide by, which you maybe have yet to learn fully, because of your youth. You do speak eloquently though and your father must be raising you to be quite the lady you describe."

Leopold turned to Effei and let her speak for herself. "To assuage yours and any concerns that play on your father let me speak some? As my cousin already mentioned, I have been in service to his father and my own. I have worked alongside the treasurer of Mandertown to entertain guests and provide a diplomatic service that has built up Mandertown to the third most powerful fleet in the Reach. Not to mention turning House Tyrell of Mandertown into a wealthy house in its own right, I do admit though not nearly as affluent as your own. I am humble enough however to admit though that my ability to crochet is abysmal, and my cooking is somewhat beyond edible."

She turned to Lord Gerold her long lashes fluttering with each blink. "You're daughter is strong and is a true lioness Lord Gerold. She will make a fine wife for any Lord of Westeros and an even better mother. You must be proud of the strong woman she is growing into."

Leopold smiled proudly, he truly did regret having to give Effei away in this manner.
