Royal Gossip Weekend Thread 8/14-8/16

Just my opinion but I don't believe the problem was ever really the issues Meghan wanted to champion. She never seemed all that fussed about the state of black and minority lives before and people who knew her and met here have said the same. And as a WoC, one of the thing that always grated me about her is how she removed all traces of ethnicity from her look. Some of us can't "opt-out" that easily. Also, colorism is a thing, and Meghan has very much used her light skin privilege.

But I digress. I think Meghan just didn't want to depend on the largesse of the monarch or the PoW. I think she didn't want to ascribe to the hierarchy of the monarchy either. I feel like she wanted to be in a place where she'd be the biggest fish in the pond, and she saw the opportunities that having a royal title bestow. And also, the role of the "spare" is always to make the heir look good. Even before Meghan came on to the scene, Harry would be thrown under the bus to save William (like William was at Harry's Nazi party as well, and they went costume shopping together). So I can see them having a gripe about that, legitimately.

Now, she can make tens of millions of dollars if not hundreds of millions, live as she likes, and do what she wants. She doesn't have to go cap in hand to the Queen or Charles or William, when they start raking it in.

She's smart but it's problematic because the royals aren't supposed to be profiting off of their fame, although they do. (Zara is a prime example. She was a crap horsewoman for years, but was still hawking rolexes, and cars, and fancy babystrollers. Peter as well but more behind the scenes stuff).
