Disclaimer because I can't handle how Karen I sound:

• I've heard the most wonderful things about Cape Town and wasn't worried at all until my family started making a bunch of comments! They say I'll need to uber everywhere and shouldn't walk anywhere alone that takes more than a few minutes. They've also never been before so I refuse to believe this is true...?
• I lived in Bogota for 3 years and everyone freaked out about that but I was only mugged 3x which is actually pretty good considering how long I was there and the fact that I walked 2 miles to work every day through a pretty bad neighborhood. However, in Bogota, you really couldn't use your phone or headphones in public because someone would just take it (this is how I was mugged one of the times).
