My past is not important. To be frank, I'm sure you guys wouldn't want to hear about it. To touch on it for a bit, I was involved in a experience that left me crippled. Reading the comments within the thread has made me feel obligated to tell you about four amazing individuals: Conan O' Brien, Patton Oswalt, Michelle McNamara, and Brian Stack.
When I was injured, I would watch Conan at night, and laugh at all of his jokes and mannerisms. His show kept me from reliving my past, mourn the present, and skeptically think of my the future. He kept me sane.
A friend of mine (unbeknownst to me) were good friends with Patton Oswalt, and his wife, Michelle. He told the two of them about my story and how much I enjoyed Conan. Patton is good friends with Conan, got in contact with me and Team CoCo invited me to a live-taping of the show. I was extremely scared to meet all of them that day. I felt it was an inconvenience to take up their time but they were so loving and wonderful to me. Brian Stack, was a writer on the CoCo show and he has appeared in sitcoms like Parks and Rec, etc. He had a soft spoken presence about him and was extremely charming.
After the show, I finally got to meet Conan. At first, I was taken aback by how tall he was (6'4" I think?). Again, just like the others, he was extremely nice. I was able to talk to him for about 30 minutes before he had to leave for a writers meeting. As we exited the room, he pulled me aside and said, "I feel compelled to tell you this--There are a lot of people that I have met in this business. Some of them bad and some of them good. But I'm truly honored to meet someone like you. You are apart of Team CoCo family now. Don't hesitate to call me for tickets or anything that you need."
I was really shocked by his statement. I was just a normal person. Why on earth, did he find me so fascinating? He has met tons of extraordinary people and he's honored to meet me? It didn't make sense. What he said, felt extremely genuine. However, I don't agree with how he feels about me. Perhaps, its the pessimist within me that is saying these things.
