Shooting at Fiesta Americana Condesa hotel 4/3/2023

As a survivor of this (event)[https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/2-suspects-dead-reported-shooting-cancun-hyatt-hotel-rcna4630], I can tell you right now I will not go to Cancun or anywhere on the east side of Mexico.

I've been traveling to Mexico for decades and have always followed the rule avoid the heat, in this case it was just starting. How the cartels have Mexico running they always leave one coast safe for tourists, it flip-flops without predictability. In the mid-2000's to late 2019 the west coast, primarily the Baja area to just north of PV was a hot zone. There was a couple of years that things were at a simmer because of COVID restrictions. Then when things started opening back up and tourists started coming back the east coast heated up, and the west coast died down.

I have been back to PV, felt completely safe, but again you can't pay me to go to Cancun for probably the next decade.
