Putting aside the fact that Bridges is an bigoted idiot, and that it's crystal fucking clear (to me at least) that this practise is inhumane and torturous, can we not simply put the decision in the hands of our health sector?

I.e. simply NZ's representative bodied of psychiatrists and psychologists to give a clear statement as to whether or not there are ANY circumstances under which conversion therapy could be considered both an appropriate and humane method of treatment.

If not, ban it.

If so, clarify what those circumstances are, and ensure that gay conversation therapy is only used in those specific circumstances, by licensed medical professionals.

And if psychiatrists and psychologists can't see eye to eye on this issue, then (god help us, and) let's air it all out.
