Waikato dad 'permanently disabled' by surgery fights to find out what went wrong

It’s no wonder the alt right are attracting people when you have health professionals like this. They can do no wrong and when they do, they still aren’t wrong. You are told to trust the system, but if the system fucks you there is very little recourse.

My late father was almost made a paraplegic by negligence from a regional hospital after a ladder fall. They wanted to give him some pain killers and book a physio appointment and send him home. Didn’t even want to X-ray him. Only after my mother started demanding and raising her voice did she get some action.

Turns out he split open his pelvis and shattered three vertebrae. The hospital staff had made it worse by trying to get him to move around and testing range of motion while he said he was at a 10 on the pain scale. He got his X-ray and a neck and back brace and was off work for six months. Burwood gave the hospital a dressing down once they received the X-rays but that was about it.
