The discovery was made last year, but has been kept secret until now as it was filmed for a major Channel 4 series to be screened in December: Jungle Mystery: Lost Kingdoms of the Amazon.

Channel 4 in the UK normally has high quality documentary series, such as the Exposure show that revealed Jimmy Savile to be a serial sexual predator and Derren Brown Investigates. But popular TV has a shoddy track record with science and history, dating back to The Mystery of Al Capone's Vaults on American TV in 1986 and now with the now dumbed down History Channel and Ancient Aliens.
