Slovenia vs Germany discussion thread

What if you are biased and wrong and there is a huge unjustice made to Slovenia regarding the final decision? I mean how sure are you that you are right?

Copy/paste from another comment:

Except it was not fair. Posting my own post from a couple hours earlier.

So I know I am a bit late, but I have been going through the rules and I think that the referees actually made a mistake regarding the final play. Rule 8.10/c If during the last 30 seconds of a game the ball is out of play, and a player or team official prevents or delays the execution of a throw for the opponents, in order to prevent them from being able to take a shot on goal or to obtain a clear scoring chance, the guilty player / official is to be disqualified and a 7m throw is to be granted to the opponents. It applies to any type of interference (e.g., with only limited physical action, interfering with the execution of a throw such as intercepting a pass, interference with the reception of the ball, not releasing the ball).

As far as I can tell this rule cannot apply to this situation, because Slovene players did not prevent the German from the execution of the throw-in. They interfered with the ball after it has already left the hand of the German player. Meaning, that you can't penalise them for that. The rule above states that you can penalise players if the prevent the player from being able to take a shot on goal - they did not. He did throw the ball, they blocked shot, and did not prevent the player from shooting on goal. And third you can't realistically call that shot a clear goal scoring opportunity, since the goalkeeper was in goal.

If the rule above was not broken, rule 15.9 shall be followed.

Except as indicated in Rules 14:8, 14:9, 15:4 2nd paragraph and 15:5 3rd paragraph, defending players who interfere with the execution of a throw for the opponents, for instance by not taking up a correct position initially or by moving into an incorrect position subsequently, shall be penalised. This applies regardless of whether it happens prior to the execution or during the execution (before the ball has left the thrower’s hand). It also applies whether the throw was preceded by a whistle signal for the restart or not. Rule 8:7c applies, in conjunction with Rules 16:1b and 16:3d. A throw that was negatively affected by a defender’s interference shall, in principle, be repeated.

This rule applies 2-minute suspension to the player and repeat of the throw-in.

Now I may have understood the rules wrong or missed a certain reference to another rule, so if I am wrong, please let me know. Edit : format, tl;dr

TL;DR Because Slovenian player played the ball after it has been shot, the correct action of the referee was 2-minute suspension and retake of the throw-off.

The coach was saying the same things after the match for croatian tv.
