Smart people of randia,If you were to be the mayor of Madras/Bangalore/Bombay/Calcutta, how would you go about cleaning it?

What most of us focus on when thinking about cleanliness is about the availability of dustbins and usage of them. I think that is the easy part. The hard part is the waste management.

Think about it, tons of garbage is generated with no good way to collect it. We have to think it from where the garbage will end up and then backwards. I am not sure if any Indian cities have landfills, recycling plants etc. Those have to be built and managed in a successful way first.

Then, garbage collection should be done regularly. Once a day atleast, for heavy traffic areas, it should be done more often. Bins should be large and lined with garbage bags.

I have read about a study where they saw that people tend to dirty up places which are already dirty. So, cleaners should be hired at least for one year in an area for relentless cleaning, hopefully we can rely on public to notice that the area is clean and big bins are available so that they can drop their garbage promptly.

For added measure, we can fine the shop owners whose garbage is found in the area. Give them ample notices asking them to provide their own garbage bins which will be collected by the city and to control their customers to not drop their garbage on the streets.

I don't think it is a complete behaviour problem but logistical problem we have with garbage.

The other things to do are to pave the roads or add grass on open lands so that there is no free dust that will keep spreading.
