Stop trying to fool yourselves into thinking Big Jay and LOS are the "next generation" after O&A. They're not. They fucking stink.

This is very Hoo Hoo Robin, but perhaps you can even argue that a huge part of the comedy podcasting world has been directly and indirectly inspired by what O&A created on the air, or basically they are on top of a tree that flows out into tons of the dominant popular comedy podcasts today.

For example there are countless podcasts who will verballu attribute or have a significantly similar format inspired from Joe Rogan Experience or SModcast with Kevin Smith. Chris Hardwick has moved more into this format over the years too, but there's Marc Maron, Tom Segura, Ear Wolf, Church of Joey Diaz, Ice House Studios, Trussell, Ari's podcast, nd then you have the huge pool of small podcasts who are based off of the 3 times removed family of aforementioned podcasts. But.. Joe Rogan an Kevin Smith have always given credit to O&A for the idea for his podcast, just hanging out and talking, no talking, free association conversation for a few hours with ball busting and arguing and pontificating and a few interview questions to move things along mixed in mixed in... and you have this huge world of podcasts that all flows back to O&A.

Bobby's YKWD podcast is undeniably based on the comedian hang shows from O&A, he even exaggerates it and kind of makes a novelty of it to the point where it's becoming a little more forced like he has a "pass the bomb" graphic for whoever bombed last and they keep track of it. Kind of corny / hacky, but it's a clear novelization of O&A celebrating their bombs/flubs as much as their show stopping great jokes. Then there is LOS (primarily Luis says this) that LOS took a lot of inspiration from YKWD as it developed over the years into what it is now. It all leads back to O&A!

Now let's not get carried away.. but even as a Stern fan I'll throw this out there, all Howard Stern ever was was the best DJ-who-doesn't-DJ that ever lived. He developed his format from Steve Dahl and did it way better and that high profile brought on the trend of shock jockery to the nation. However.. O&A actually created a show format that has taken off to the point where it has become a standard in podcasting, and there are very very few Howard Stern imitators who have a popular podcast compared to those doing comedy hangout formats. Although Howard definitely inspired Opie and Anthony in the way that they carry out the actual bones of their radio shows and personas, Opie and Anthony's creation is significantly more influential to the future of talk entertainment than Howard Stern's is.
