Switchback first impressions -- I don't think a patch will fix it.

Far too many gamers are never going to accept that preordering is bad, regardless of the developer.

Even if you take the best developer in the world, if 99% of the games target audience were to preorder the game, their potential return on investment for future development in that game will plummet to almost theoretically zero. Their goal at that point will perhaps change to releasing a game that doesn't damage their reputation as a great developer, rather than creating a game that that is absolutely incredible. There are obviously exceptions to this, where the developers go above and beyond, but there is really no way of predicting which games will receive that treatment. Nobody would have expected HelloGames to go above and beyond to the extent that they did.

In this case, they likely don't care about their reputation. It's just a quick cash grab, that is far more successful because people preordered it. If nobody at all had preordered the game, for example, they would have had to work more on the game to ensure that it didn't get awful reviews—there would have been a clear financial return for making this game decent.

The thing is, so many people say 'don't tell me how to spend my money' (nobody is) or 'X dev is an exception to the preorder rule' (but there are people who say this for almost every dev). All of these people are harming their own experience in the games that they are excited to play.
