I dont think sony will start selling it to retailers in america anytime soon. Theyre testing the whole direct purchase system. Which is why US and UK have to direct order from sony meanwhile canada and asia get it through normal retailers like amazon gamestop etc. It originally was a invite only queue like the ps5 sales during the pandemic but they probably noticed they would get more sales by opening up the preorder system. I have a feeling its to deter scalping and also practice for when they drop the ps5 pro and slim coming out later this year. I recently bought the dual sense edge controller and it was also direct purchase only. Said retailers would get to sell it the month after. I dont think retailers would carry it unless sony gives the ok.
