No one was ranking anything (in this thread), what are you talking about? You've created a straw man to attack.

I agree that in general people do seem to rank creatures in terms of how much they deserve to not suffer. Most people only really care about other creatures when it's convenient; i.e. they don't want to eat or wear them (pet dogs for example). Some will decide that chickens and pigs and cows are also worth caring about, but they will eat fish. Others go all out and live a vegan lifestyle, and rank all creatures equally.

Historically humans have exploited other creatures in this way out of a need to eat and have warm clothing. This is no longer necessary for at least humans living in developed countries, as they generally have access to synthetic clothing alternatives, and an abundance of plant based food.

Going back to your comment however, you have decided to mix the playing of badminton, a recreational activity, in with the other human needs I mentioned above, food and clothing, as a necessity. How absurd and selfish, to consider the playing of badminton as something so necessary that it justifies torturing and killing of other creatures. It's even more of an outrageous opinion given that no one is even saying you can't play badminton, only that perhaps you could consider playing with a synthetic shuttle, which I doubt you would even notice the difference with.
