Teachers of Reddit: What is the most ridiculous thing you have heard a parent say ?

I ruined their child's academic career. I taught grade 5 and their child still has Excellence in all subjects. The issues was that I actually made them work for their grades.

I was the reason their kid was tired and cranky at school. Apparently the 5 minutes of homework I have kept them up too late. They had to find an example of a rotation at home for geometry.

I was the worst thing that ever happened to their kid because another kid was teasing them in the school yard but I wasn't told about it so when I did find out, I talked to both of them as a first step then referred it to admin once those boundaries didn't work.

The kid was failing because of an academic and developmental delay. Apparently it was my fault and nothing was wrong with the kid.

Diagnosed ADHD made it hard for a kid to focus. They had so much trouble with writing and reading because it interfered with their decoding ability. They made up their own language to cope. Parent refused to medicate despite the fact it was affecting grades. I used to give the kid caffeinated tea when it was really bad (I had permission to make tea for my students as a treat) and surprise, their reading improved! The parent refused to take my calls for anything or reply to my emails.

I could go on but it makes me sad to think about it.
