Tennessee man gets $14M bond after daring judge to raise his bond

If it was objectively excessive, nobody would be arguing about it. The fact is, his initial bond was crazy low considering 10% is all you pay a bondsman, and I don't see why someone accused of a sexual crime against a minor should be free for $5,000 anyway. And judges have the right, and usually plenty of logical reasons, to raise a bond based on contempt of court among other potential factors. Flipping off the courtroom and asking for a higher bond shows a complete lack of understanding of the gravity of the situation, or in this case a lack of care, making him much less likely to show back up to court. For somebody facing that kind of charge, the bond was ridiculously low in the first place, not to mention the fact that he's also facing accusations of murder. The judge probably should've just went with no bond, but this essentially has the same result. That kind of attitude over that kind of charge... That guy is a prime example of someone likely to harm someone else in a similar way to either of the heinous crimes he's accused of. If anything, the judge fucked up by setting the bond too low initially.
