The fact that each wheel is being independently driven by it's own electric motor also allows for levels of traction/stability control several orders of magnitude more effective than any scheme we've come up with for preventing and recovering skids like this.
Speaking as someone with a reasonable amount of experience in performance driving, that Tesla's computer pulled that maneuver off more tightly and accurately than 99% of human drivers would even if they were ready for it and doing it on purpose. One swerve exactly enough to avoid the obstacle, one millisecond-perfect correction for the resulting skid, and then just continues on like nothing.
