Okay, listen, lets say you have a great idea for society, one that would turn our country into a utopia. Perhaps the idea would involve no violence, no crime, no destitute soul. You think you can bring about this by laws that would tax the wealthy and outlaw guns. In your mind this would work; after all, humans are naturally caring beings right? No! Your mind is not the real world. You have to account for the fact that (1) people want as much pleasure as possible with as little work as necessary, and (2) people do not share the same utopian idea as you (For Muslims it would be Sharia Law). Therefore, you are at a crossroad. You want to help out your fellow man, and shape society to your image, so you pass legislation that would cramp down on potential resistance;i.e. freedom of speech because people do not know what is good for them and your right anyway right? Also guns would have to go, so their is not an uprising, but who cares the world is going to be perfect! So, as a socialist you have made great strides- guns are now completely illegal, only Politically Correct dialog that conforms to your ideology is allowed, and you think people are living out their lives as you had imagined. However, there is no incentive for people to go out and create new ideas and start businesses, or for the economy to expand since the taxing laws of socialism will produce meagre results. Therefore, the economy begins to tumble as your nation is outcompeted in the global market that your socialist policies brought about, and as a result of this, SHIT really starts to hit the fan as your country goes into debt becomes of your domestic socialist policies (free healthcare, free education, welfare).
