Time off the decks

I spent four years, 2010/14, pre/post spinal surgery in bed, unable to stand behind the decks.

I have to start the story back in 1997....I made a 15 page BPM document in Excel, (originally, before I snapped my own spine) I started the document, in 1997...because all my DJ mates put stickers on their records...and I thought at the time (with about 60 records to my name) it was a better idea, than ruining your records with tacky stickers...if you think I'm putting a sticker on my Beltram records, you got another thing comin' buddy!. Well, now, after 25 years, the same 15pg document I started with 60 records, is now 760 pages long, listing 3500+ records, and Excel tells me I have beatcounted 17500+ tracks of those 3500 pieces of vinyl. I built an analog BPM Database by hand...while completely detached from the DJing World....And when I got out of bed, all you lucky pricks now had fucking software, to do in an hour, what took me 25yrs to achieve, you lucky bastards, can now just load up your Mp3's into Serato or Traktor, and it does it all for you.....the entire DJ game has changed, with DVS, MPC's et al.
As Ad Rock once said, I now echo his sentiments...being an old-school vinyl DJ...

Fuck All Y'all. You Jammy Bastards...each and every one of you!!!! :)D

Anyway, with this document, which I can sort by a BPM column, I could DJ on my laptop (years before DVS) on two windows of Youtube, lying in bed...just to try and get sets together, for a desired future return to my beloved 1210's...then Youtube gave us the ability to vary the playspeed of videos, and I was in heaven, it's relatively easy to get sets together with such a document, just cut and paste a setlist together, without even listening to the tracks. It's real benefit though has been, I now have the ability to link tracks together, I would never had even thought of mixing together. You have that ability too with Traktor and Serato, don't you, you spoiled brats.....

While I was crippled, I streamlined my setlist building and approach, learnt bpm's of many thousands of songs, by heart, connected tracks that have NEVER been Djed together before and now that i am finally upright and out of bed, building the database by hand, beatcounting all those songs, has helped me 'get to know' my collection better, you assholios, can press a button and it 's done, in a moment....

I have wasted my life...
