Video about picking your character in Smash Bros. Ultimate

I’d say your view of what “competitive” is is a little different from mine.

Here's the thing though. Competitive isn't a subjective topic it's defined by competing at competitions. Competitive players are people who enter touremants with the goal of winning.

He is correct that this video was aimed at casual players. With oversimplified chategories being too misleading and vague to be helpful for any player trying to understand the topic at a competitive level. And a general "pick whoever, play whoever." Attitude that should only be held when playing casual matches.

Not everyone who puts a lot of time into this game has the same dedication as someone like Nairo. Not everyone wants to win evo, some people just want to get good enough to beat all their friends. As such, not everyone has time to spend 15-30 minutes in training with every single character

So very true. And this is how we separate people who play casually and people who play competitively. 30 minutes on each character comes out to 37 hours playtime. 15 minutes comes out to 18.5 hours. If you don't have that ammount of time to dedicate into learning the basics of each character there is not much of a point in picking a main at all. As the only reason to main a character is to focus your dedicated practice time into a single characterer. And you should expect 300+ hours of practice minimum before you hit a level to be viewed as proficient at the character. So not having time to try everybody out doesn't mean you should rush to pick a main, it means you don't have the time to have a main in general.

The fact of the matter is that 90% of people who will have the desire to play this game at a high level will not get far enough to win a tournament, much less become a notable pro player.

I don't know what point your even trying to make other then to discourage new players. "Hey don't worry about picking a character. You will never be good enough for it to matter anyway" is a hell of a thought to give new players. And genuinely unhelpful to the FGC every time it's expressed. Anybody can be the next diago. All it takes is hardwork. Discouraging hard work because the odds of success are low seems to totally contradict your later claim that learning is a goal for you.
