[Weekly thread] Technician Tuesday!

Freaky Fridays Part 2

A few minutes before the rush hour, we were all freaking out because a lot of people were dropping off and picking up all at once. Luckily for me, I had easy medications to type up. Since it was allergy season, doctors/PA were prescribing inhalers, cough medications, and antibiotics. I look up and saw a huge line forming at the pick up window At least 6 people were waiting in line for their medications. On top of that, there was a customer/pt asking when her prescription will be ready. "You told me it'll be ready at 4:30!" I looked at the clock and showed her it was only 4:20 PM. Well, what did ya know, not even 430 yet! Before that, not sure if she was acting or really panicking, but she said she seriously needed her meds or else she will freak out. And she had the look on her eyes warned me that a meltdown was gonna arise. Oh no. It was time for me to turn up.

He was on the phone with some dude and was unable to run it through his insurance. Though the patient said over the phone fill whatever we can and he will pick up the rest of the medication on Monday, he kept going back and forth looking for the insulin in the fridge! Three times! It's good that he was checking the fridge but if it's not there then it's not there. I had to complete that for him.

The phones were ringing, kids were crying, and people were starting to get frustrated. Insurances also needs to be updated. Just another day at the pharmacy.

Then I had to type up an RX for QVAR 80. I updated her insurance and was struggling with the aerochamber. Those are hard to type up because I still get confused which one. One of the pharmacist had to explain in great detail how to use one. The insurance did not cover it anyways and didn't want to pay 80 bucks for it. After all that explaining and going through, she ended up not picking those meds because it costs her 15 bucks for the inhaler alone.

After I cleared the drop off, there was still a long line of people, so I switched to the pick up window. I quickly cleared that for him.

This dude tho was talking to himself the entire time and it was driving me nuts! In my mind I was like wth are you even saying?! He complained about lack of training and I agreed with him, but unfortunately you have to learn how each store operators on the spot. Then he went on talking about some random stuff. He would not stop talking! Thinking back, I should have been more professional and understanding, but I was annoyed myself.

Things were not getting easier by the minute; I refreshed my system and saw that 10 e-scripts to type up. Cool. Good thing he was still at the pick up. Even though it wasn't the fastest, it still gave me time to process those prescriptions and pull for her while he assisted the pick-up window. Some help is better than no help. I wasn't going to end my week on a bad note after all the hard work we did during the week. Gotta finish strong. I tried my best to catch up and eventually did. Hurray!

My goal was to not leave a mess for the senior tech before he comes back from his vacation. The week was one of the hardest week ever. The first time I ran the store, I bombed it. Second time, still not good. The third time, I struggled but took better care of the regulars. Each time running the store, I was a different person. I kind of knew what to do. Everyone stepped up. I'm not there quite yet, still have a long way to go.

tl;dr

Good help is underrated.

This job can get seriously frustrating at times.

Couldn't wait for the week to be over.

TGIF.

He wasn't bad, he has potential, he would be decent if he stops talking to himself all the time.

The end..for now..
