What Are You Reading This Week and Weekly Rec Thread

Started and finished David MCCraney’s You Are Not So Smart. A lot of it I had already heard in his podcasts. It’s an entertaining quick read about cognitive biases and how our memories and choices are not what or why we think they are.

Also started and finished Machines Like Me by Ian McEwan. It’s part science fiction and psychological fiction. A man blows his inheritance on a lifelike robot man. He shares him with his neighbor and eventual lover. He asks her to decide on half the robots traits. A love triangle ensues. Just like movies and stories about robots, things go south. But this one isn’t cliched or as predictable. It was thought provoking.

After having read that novel, I want to read the Ray Bradbury story where a man buys a robot clone to fool his wife. I can’t remember the name of it.
