What are some mods to make the gameplay more "fun"? Or am I just playing this game wrong?

When bg2 first came out I didn't know about it, and only tried the demo from a pc gaming magazine. I died a lot in that starting dungeon having no idea what was going on (the demo ended there). I enjoyed what I saw though of the starting dungeon and eventually bought it. It came with thickest manual I'd seen for a game, and used to nerd out to read it during non gaming times. So it was different for me, and a lot of us.

Can't really help with the magic system, it's pretty woven in to the game. You seem quite focused on spells? I think I started with the ever OP inquisitor and was able to somewhat ignore learning how to defeat most mages. Berserkers are fun too for been able to rage through must nasty encounters.

My long term enjoyment of the bg series boils down to:

  • A large number of npc's with their own stories (I don't solo).

  • Going from dying to a stray arrow to defeating multiple dragons in one fight (ascension).

  • Huge number of mods.

Did you try pillars of eternity? Did you like that? Obviously this game is old and it shows, with a large number of obscure mechanics.

I am a mod addict but don't really think there's much I could suggest.
