Tips for running Baldur's Gate story as a pen-and-paper campaign?

Blind bounty hunter might be worth considering. You need to tweak the game slightly to make doing it worthwhile. There are ways to become permanently blind in BG2, but they are hard to find and get accidentally dispelled by Heal which sucks. Best way to do it is with a mod item, my character has a blindfold.

The reason you want this character to be blind is that blind characters can lay traps during combat that immediately trigger and hit every enemy. The special traps maze out every creature within fireball distance with no save. This gives you usually 5-7 rounds iirc to "pre buff" and summon creatures during a fight and set more traps including more maze traps if you want. They can also drop high level traps but unfortunately they don't multi trigger like the normal and maze traps, which also do solid burst damage.

I also made a better offhand weapon for my cleric. Having a pure cleric is nice because they get lots of animate dead.

Use wand of lightning cheese at every oppurtunity as well. 6 well placed incendiary clouds can do wonders in a wide variety of encounters.
