What comes across as selfish but actually isn’t?

Perhaps not wanting kids could be a suitable answer.

I know I'd not be a good parent as I do not have the time and patience to raise children. People tell me I am selfish for not wanting children but whenever I ask why they had kids the answers always start with "Because I wanted to bring life into the world..." or "I wanted to give my life meaning". It seems that "I want, I want, I want" is a common answer for people who claim not to be selfish with their reasons to have children.

I'll just stick to loving my partner and enjoying life without kids. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure most of you reading this are beautiful, wonderful parents, but I knew from a young age that it is just not something I ever wanted.
