Not really a dumb reason I got detention but a story of how I never got in trouble for being late.
I used to show up 10-15 minutes late everyday (I think I only ever showed up early once). There was always a line of people next to the office to get a later slip, show up late three times and you win the prize of detention. The was always the same teacher monitoring to make sure late comers got the slip and dealt out the detentions. But teacher was so relaxed and didn't give a shit so it was never an issue.
Now my homeroom teacher played favorites so it was no big deal if I just popped in before class started and asked her to mark me present. Most days she would just mark me present even if I wasn't there (I very rarely missed a day). She hated me when I first arrived because I looked like one of the "bad ones" but when she saw my first report card her opinion changed real fast. Thing were great for that first year.
Things changed when we got a new teacher to monitor the late comers. Everyday she would force me to skip the line to get a slip and hand me detention when I got three lates. Needless to say I had quite a lot of detentions.
Funny thing is the detention teacher knew me very well and thought I was the pinnacle of good students. So the first time I showed up for detention he took one good look at me, winked and said "Error I don't see your name on the list" and he let me go. He told me later that anytime I get detention for being late just let him know and he'll mark that I was there and let me go.
When we were almost halfway through the school year the monitor finally broke. She took me into her office and asked why I was late everyday and if I enjoyed going to detention. I told her that no matter how early I get ready my mom is always late no matter how much I push her to hurry up. The next day she ignored me and I walked past everybody. Never interacted with her after that except for when I graduated highschool. I was late to the award assembly and she gave me my perfect attendance award in the office.
