What was everyone’s Rolex journey?

1st - 116300 Datejust II, purchased at a local AD in October 2012 as I turned 30 years old. Never owned a luxury watch before; just wanted to finally own a "nice watch" then. Had no thought of ever becoming a "collector".

2nd - 116500LN Daytona - this is the watch that REALLY introduced me to the world of SS Rolex watches. I tried so many ADs and were all brushed off; just really, really wanted it and bought it off a private seller via The Rolex Forum in September 2017.

3rd - 116610LN Submariner Date purchased via a local grey dealer in October 2019. At this time my strategy was to be "waitlisted " in ADs and at the same time acquire this piece from a grey dealer. The Rolex hype picked up from here and I never received a call.

4th - 116710BLNR purchased right after the first lockdown from the COVID pandemic (May 2020). The Rolex secondary market was seeing its first-ever dip since I was introduced to Rolex, and I just had to get this piece.

5th - 16610LV "Kermit", this is the second purchase along with the BLNR during the COVID dip in May 2020.

6th - 126710BLRO on Jubilee - purchased in December 2020, at this time the secondary prices have shot back up, I have tried to be waitlisted with this piece but of course to no avail. Bought at peak market prices then.

7th - Patek Philippe 5164A - purchased recently at the peak prices via grey dealer, had to trade in my 16610LV since it was the least worn watch out of my entire collection. Dealer gave me a pretty good trade-in price for it, had to top up a lot of money though.

I've gone from only wanting one nice watch to now having 6 and still wanting more. It's been a great journey and ever since I've acquired my first Patek I can finally understand why now. I think I'll be focusing on Patek in the future (if my finances allow).
