What Inspired You to Learn Your TL(s)?

It's not in my flair yet, because I'm bad at it, but I'm currently learning Japanese. And I know what you all think right now. Well, that's only a bit true. Yes, anime is part of why I'm learning, but that's only 30% of the reason.

The real reason is, over the years I've come to hate English, as it's used everywhere and I've become so good at it, that at this point I'm able to write better in English than my native language (Polish). I also felt guilty for only knowing 2 languages (and one of them is slowly being replaced by English in my life). Why are there so many cultures and languages, but I only choose to engage in 2 of them (really only 1 but let's pretend)?

So I decided to get as far away from European languages as possible, as those are heavily influenced by English and Latin. That means I have a choice between: Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. I'm totally not interested in Arabic, Korean, or Chinese culture, so I went with Japanese (and Russian as a side project).
